Wise words from grandma

Have I shared with you all how adorable my grandma is? Well she is quite adorable, and I love her a lot... In fact I aspire to be like her one day.

Today's wise word from grandma is, "Shit or get off the pot." Which I don't think she can fully take credit for, but she decided to share it with me... So this is me, passing it on. No seriously though.

On growing up...

Ok kids. Here it is. The latest post you've all been waiting for. I hope it does not disappoint.

There are really good things about growing up and really crappy ones. This summer has been a huge turning point in my life. I spent half of the summer in a daze of excitement for something that didn't ever work out, and the other half in utter confusion as I sorted through emotions, crappy relationships, changing friendships and 'temporary' employment.

So as I "leave the storm" so to say, I've decided two things:

1. Learning to be an adult and maturing has a heck of a lot to do with relationships of all types and what we do with those relationships. No matter how much we try, we can't always be in high school and have lockers next to each other or live in the dorms with your 20 best friends in college. Even more importantly, we can't always live with mom (for soooo many reasons), but we have to keep a healthy distance with some of these people so we can develop a level of independence. And along the way, we meet some very interesting people... who we also have relationships with.

My friend Nicky blogged about how each of us are supporting characters in each others' lives. So true. I can honestly say that Nicky has been an awesome supporting character in my life. As our friendship has grown, she's shared some of her life with me that I hope I've gleaned even a smidge of.

2. Life will never go as planned.
I'm a planner... like a very detailed planner. Sometimes it is the bane of my existence, but most times it is just my nature. I never expected to have such a hard time finding a job after college. In fact, I was so sure of myself and my marketability that I always pictured myself skipping town and ruling the world (not quite, but almost). Well, needless to say that didn't happen, and here I am in little old Idaho. Woot. Seriously.

So as I process all of these things, I'm just not so sure what to do with myself. I guess I'll just continue to learn to be myself. Know what else is reassuring to me about now? Zephaniah 3:17 check it out, kids.

"The Lord Your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you; He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing."

Wow. That's oddly enough how I'm feeling about now... quiet.

that girl...

I hate Rachel. ;o)

In other news

... I'm 99.9% sure that my grandma told me a dirty joke tonight except it didn't make sense to me. In fact, I'm pretty sure everyone was confused. We just assumed she thought it was dirty because of her giggle. So presh.

Craptacular Times

Ok I just got through the most craptacular week ever.

Last weekend was so nice. It was also complete with quality time at Wahooz playing laser tag, racing go carts, and cheap Nerf gun wars. Then Sunday I started to not feel overly well, but I spent the entire afternoon and evening with some very dedicated friends who helped me transform the church into the Milky Way galaxy. Needless to say, it was a good day.

Monday was average for a Monday. By Monday night, however, I opted to warm up some water in the microwave for tea for my throat. Little did I know that the mug I was using was lame-o, and it decided to burn my right ring finger! I now have a blister that is recovering. Who does that?! Really?!

By Tuesday, my illness was full on out-of-control. I had to leave work early, and I fumbled my way through Walmart to get the standard sick foods (bread, soup, juice, sudafed and cough syrup). After sleeping most of the day and night, I returned to work on Wednesday (only half there). Ummmm, then there was that realization that I was in way over my head with my obligations and things that were going on in my life. I love life. How funny is that? Don't you love when you reach that point where you kind of just give up, decide that God really does have a sense of humor, and that you really can't do anything to control some things? Aw, it's a great feeling.

I felt much much better by Friday when I opted to take an Excedrin Migraine for my ongoing dull headache that had nagged me for the week.

I miss your FACE

I started this blog with a completely different train of thought in mind... But knowing me and my randomness, I figure you'll just have to deal with it.

Do you ever have those conversations with people where you're completely absorbed by random flashbacks to the great movies and television shows of your childhood? They are truly great conversations ... and memories. "The Boy Who Could Fly," "Fraggle Rock," "The Gummy Bears," "Captain Planet,"... the list goes on and on.

Most every time I engage in this conversation "Hugga Bunch" comes up...and no one ever remembers it (other than my sister who was pained every time I rented the beloved tale of puppet babies who sang and danced). Thanks to my good friend YouTube, I now have proof that "Hugga Bunch" does exist. I'm determined to obtain my own copy so I'm adding it to my wishlist.

So to all my friends who are far far away (or to those I just don't see enough)... I miss your FACE, and I wish I could just give you a good hug because it is not wise to underestimate the power of a good hug.
