mickey mouse toast and inversions

So this morning I woke up, and I was very happy that it was not necessarily Monday but rather "Wednesday." I ended up getting ready a little early, and decided to partake in cinnamon toast. Sydney owns a Mickey Mouse toaster which is mostly broken, even after fully disassembling it and putting it back together. So most days the toaster does not work for me, but today Syd was still home when I made my toast. Anyhow, the toaster burnt my toast (yes, the toaster... not me. I did not adjust the settings or anything, but I assumed it would be okay because Syd retrieved a lovely golden slice just before me.) When I dropped my slices on my plate, I noticed there were little Mickey Mouses burnt into them. How awesome is that?

In other news: it is the season of inversions... Nampa and inversions don't mix overly well, and I think it is sugar beat season. Even so I would like to say that I am sooooo excited for the Holidays! I don't know if you've noticed, but it very much smells like Christmas... Given, today's fog was not the coolest thing in the world, I think I'm ready for winter. Ask me if I feel this way in February when there is a blizzard every other day... Maybe I'll be ready for summer then, but right now I'm enjoying the change in weather.

In an even more random post, I just want to give a quick shout out to my girls. I've loved catching up with all of you lately, and many of them were long overdue.

I guess my life is an open book....

Somedays I am just an open book, and it really bothers me... somedays. Mostly because I'll start talking, realize I shouldn't have brought up the topic but that I'm too far in to back out. The majority of these stories also make me feel like I then have to add a disclaimer to the end of them... I call this condition "verbal vomit" primarily because I seem to have little-to-no control of it.
I can't seem to find that "happy" line between what I should tell someone, and what actually comes out of my mouth. Does everyone do this? Maybe I should just not admit to it. Arg.

In other random news, I figured out what "amalgamation" is: "the process of being amalgamated." I was driving to Target when I passed Nampa's beloved Amalgamated Sugar Factory. I've even visited the darn place, but for some reason it struck me funny tonight and I realized I didn't really know what "amalgamated" really meant. Webster's online dictionary then informed me that "amalgamated" means to, "merge into a single cell" (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/amalgamated). Should you be interested in seeing this powerful information for yourself/ want to hear a correct pronunciation of this word feel free to visit the linked site. Basically, I wanted to share this information with you all. I feel it is a worthy tidbit of information.

Crusaders capture yotes 76-71 at annual rivalry

For all of you Crusaders out there- the age old C of I/NNU rivalry continued last week with the best match-up I've seen in (o let's say) three years.

Anne, Kyla, Sydney and I went to the game... Syd and Anne even made a cheer of their own. This should be a good season!

This clip keeps me laughing

... and laughing and laughing and laughing...

Bilingual chickens

Where does time go? Life goes crazy fast. I usually write an issue of the 'Ashlee Archive' to update family and friends about my life, but for now, I'm just going to replace that with this blog. Well, I'm quickly approaching the six months since graduation mark. Apparently that is when my student loans kick in, and I have to start making that payment. Peachy right? I thought so too! I love additional writing large checks.

Several of my friends are far far away, and I'm halfway through the best interim position/ first-job-out-of-college ever as NNU's interim director of marketing and pr. Have I mentioned that I love it? Because I love it. Fast forward through the the first stretch of the Meet the NNU President tour, Homecoming & Family Weekend, the President's Christmas card, the Fall Messenger mailing, rollout of Informz, and here I am. Now I have a little time to breathe and take on some additional writing, maintenance and some of those "as time allows projects."

One other fascinating piece of my job entails asking people for story leads. Last week, I sent out a campus email, and one of the responses caught my eye. One of those story leads involved a new children's book that will come out soon about bilingual chickens. This got me to thinking: can chickens be bilingual... and that was a funny thought. Think about it.

Keeping My Day Job

Hello blogging world. This is my story. This is my blog. This is me.

I'm not overly sure how to maintain a blog... I confess I've not been overly faithful to my journal through the years, but I've been thinking of doing this for some time now... I'll start out slow with a funny story from my week.

So I have several coworkers who are hilarious. I had to ask one of them a question the other day and on my way to leave I turned and noticed the stairway light was off. It was a really long day, and I was really tired so I sighed and said, "Okay, I'm going back to my day job." My coworker paused and looked at me and said, "Wait, what's your night job?" Yah, I asked for that one. Because the light was still off, I flipped the switch closest to me and the main lights went off. As I realized I flipped the wrong switch my other coworker then said, "Ashlee, you don't have to show us what your night job is." Just another day in the life...
